Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday declared that the party would contest the by-elections in Dubbaka Assembly constituency. The seat fell vacant following the sudden demise of TRS MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy.

The TPCC chief, speaking on the occasion of TJS Secretary Bhawani Reddy joining the Congress, asked the DCC president Narsa Reddy to take immediate measures to strengthen the party at mandal level and also convene a constituency-level meeting. He asked the party cadre to gear up for the by-elections.

Expressing concern over the increase in attacks and atrocities on Dalits across Telangana State, he said Narsimhulu, a Dalit farmer, committed suicide in Gajwel, the Chief Minister’s constituency after his land was allegedly taken away by the government forcefully. Similarly, another Dalit youth committed himself in a police station after he was allegedly subjected to harassment by the police, he said, adding that a representation would be made to the Union Ministry for Social Justice, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Scheduled Castes Commission on the attacks on Dalits in the State seeking their intervention.
