GHMC to conduct counselling sessions for slum dwellers

Hyderabad: To expedite construction of two bedroom houses in the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to conduct counselling sessions for slum dwellers, who are reluctant to vacate their houses for construction of two bedroom houses.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy directed the Additional Commissioner (UCD) and Zonal Commissioners to hold counselling sessions for the slum dwellers. During the sessions, officials will explain slum dwellers about advantages of living in double bed room houses, which will be equipped with sufficient parking, drainage, lighting, water and other civic amenities.

Apart from the GHMC officials, a few NGOs are also being inducted for the cause. GHMC has identified 128 areas for construction of double bedroom houses and of these 61 locations are slums. The government is constructing double bedroom houses for the poor to make Hyderabad a slum-free City.

Among the 61 areas, residents of Chingam Cheruvu, Chilkalguda, Dhobighat, Subhashnagar, Sayed sab ka bada, Gode Ki Kabar, Yerukala Nacharamma Basthi, GY Reddy Compound, Cha Cha Nehru Nagar Kattalmandi, Banda Maisamma, Ambedkar Nagar Road No 46,Indiranagar, Khairatabad, Jangammet, New Indira nagar, Potti Sriramulu nagar, Ziaguda have voluntarily vacated their premises and are cooperating with GHMC.

GHMC has already issued tenders for 176 houses at Singur Cheruvu, 288 houses at Yerukala Nacharamma Basthi, 48 at Sayed sab-ka-bada, and 540 at Jangammet. Constructions is underway at Yerukala Nacharamma Basthi, Singam Cheruvu areas.

Each house will consist of two bed rooms, hall, kitchen and two toilets (Bath-cum– WC) of total plinth area about 560 Sft. In GHMC, the houses will be constructed as vertical structures i.e., G+3 floors (without lift), Stilt + 5 floors (with lift) & Cellar + Stilt + 9 floors (with lift). Each unit cost will be Rs 7 lakh, Rs 7.75 lakh and Rs 7.90 lakh respectively. Additional cost over and above the sanctioned dwelling unit cost of Rs 7 lakh will be borne by GHMC.
