Hyderabad: There were 74 new coronavirus cases in the State on Saturday while six more persons succumbed to the virus, taking the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the State to 77.
According to the Health Department bulletin, there were 60 new ‘local cases’, out of which 41 were from areas falling under GHMC, five from Rangareddy district, three from Sangareddy, two each from Mahabubnagar and Jagtiyal while one each positive case were reported from Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Warangal Urban, Vikarabad, Medchal, Nagarkurnool and Nizamabad. The rest of the 14 cases were migrants (9) and deportees from Saudi Arabia (5).
The six fatalities inlcuded a three-month-old baby with associated cardiac disease, a 24-day-old pre-term baby, a 58-year-old man with blood pressure, a 62-year-old man with diabetes and blood pressure, a 52-year-old man with blood pressure and a 47-year-old man who had underwent a cardiac surgery.
As the total number of positive cases in the State went up to 2,499, with 1,010 of these undergoing treatment in hospitals, there were 1,412 discharges so far. The districts with zero positive cases till date were Yadadri and Warangal Rural.
According to the bulletin, the Government of India had airlifted 458 deportees from Saudi Arabia to Hyderabad, who have been quarantined in various government quarantine facilities. So far, 201 deportees have tested positive for Covid-19. Apart from the deportees, 189 migrants, who returned to Telangana from other States also tested positive.
Till a few days ago, there were nearly 27 districts in the State that had not a single case of Covid-19 for 14 days. However, since the exemptions for lockdown were introduced, this has come down to 14 districts with no cases of Covid-19 in the last 14 days. These are include Siricilla, Kamareddy, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Peddapally, Siddipet, Bhadradri, Asifabad, Adilabad, Gadwal, Nalgonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad and Nirmal.
PGs from OGH
Two Post Graduate (PG) medical students from Osmania Medical College and General Hospital have tested positive for the virus on Saturday.
The PG doctors include a woman medico from the gynaecology department, who was discharging her duties at Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj, and another male PG in-charge of duty doctors who had a travel history to Mahabubnagar.
“The district surveillance officials have already initiated the process of looking for contacts of the two medicos who have tested positive. I want to assure our PG medicos that we are taking all safety measures,” said OGH Superintendent, Dr Nagender.
4 Media persons infected:
Meanwhile, four media persons representing national television channels also tested positive in Hyderabad. These persons were said to be asymptomatic and on getting tested were found to be positive.
