Hyderabad: The State government on Monday confirmed that six persons, who attended a religious congregation at Markaz in Nizamuddin, New Delhi between March 13 and 15, died of Covid-19 in Telangana State.
Out of the six coronavirus related fatalities, two died in Gandhi Hospital and one each in Apollo Hospitals, Global Hospitals, Nizamabad and Gadwal. The special surveillance teams under the District Collectors have so far managed to identify several persons who had come in close contact with the deceased and had shifted them to government hospitals.
In order to identify more people who might have attended the religious meet and to prevent further spread of the highly contagious coronavirus, the State government urged people who were at Markaz to come forward and self-report their medical condition.
“The State government will conduct tests and offer treatment for such people free of cost. Hence, all persons from Telangana State who went for the prayers at Markaz in New Delhi should inform the authorities. Anyone who has information about them should alert the Medical and Health Department of Telangana State,” the State Health Department said.
76 positive cases in TS
On Monday, six more persons tested positive for coronavirus, taking the overall number of Covid-19 positive cases to 76. Out of the 76 cases, 14 persons who had recovered were discharged, six persons had died and the 56 persons who tested positive were undergoing treatment at various government hospitals.
New Delhi alerted
As soon as it was confirmed that the six persons who had participated in the religious meet at Markaz, died, the State Health Department alerted the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), New Delhi, about the possibility of mass transmission of the novel coronavirus in other States. “It has become a national issue because people from all Indian States had participated in the Markaz meet. There is a need for all the States to identify people who were present at Markaz between March 13 and 15 and isolate all of them, including their close contacts,” senior health officials said.
