Hyderabad: Telangana reported 1,892 new Covid-19 infections and eight fatalities on Friday, pushing the death toll to 283 and cumulative cases of coronavirus to 20,462. In the last 24 hours, 1,658 new Covid-19 positive cases have been reported from areas under GHMC, which also happens to be the largest one-day spike in positive cases in Hyderabad since the pandemic.
According to the health bulletin, 1,126 persons were discharged on Thursday which has taken the number of recoveries to 10,195 while the number of active cases Covid-19 infections has now risen to 9984.
Apart from 1,658 Covid-19 infections from Hyderabad, 56 from Rangareddy, 44 from Medchal, 41 from Warangal Rural, 20 from Sangareddy, 13 from Nalgonda, 12 from Mahabubnagar, seven from Mahabubabad, six each from Siricilla and Kamareddy, five from Wanaparthy, four cases from Kothagudem, three cases each from Siddipet, Medak, Nizamabad, two cases each from Khammam and Nirmal one case each from Karimnagar, Gadwal, Mulugu, Jagtiyal, Warangal urban, Nagarkurnool and Vikarabad.
In the last 24 hours, authorities tested 5,965 samples out of which 4,073 tested negative while 1,892 tested positive. Cumulatively, Telangana has conducted 1, 04, 118 tests out of which 83, 656 tested negative while 20, 462 have tested positive.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said that one of the private laboratories had reported extremely high sample positivity rates. The said lab has reported 2,672 positive cases against 3,726 total samples tested.
“The positivity rate is 71.7 percent which is a gross variation and discrepancy in the notified positivity rate of Covid-19 till date. The tested negatives are only 962 out of 3,726 samples. The issue needs to be evaluated by an expert committee and until then the data of the said lab has been kept under abeyance,” Director of Public Health, Dr G Srinivas Rao said.
