Kothagudem: The CPI workers have laid siege to SCCL corporate office here on Saturday as part of three-day bandh called in protest against coal mining privatisation by the Union government.

Ex-MLA and the party assistant secretary K Sambasiva Rao and others took part in the protest. Speaking on the occasion he thanked all the workers and the labour unions for making the bandh a success.

He stated that the Centre’s recent move wherein the Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the auction process for Coal India Limited’s (CIL) 41 blocks was detrimental to the welfare of coal miners.

The BJP government at the Centre was harming the interests of workers across the nation. The government should immediately with its decision to privatise coal mining, Sambasiva Rao demanded.

The Modi government was unilaterally privatising public sectors in the country. The Centre  has already privatised entities like BSNL, Indian Railways and others. Coal mining privatisation would affect nearly 4.5 lakh workers, he added.

Protests by the TBGKS and other labour unions have been staged at Kothagudem, Yellandu, Manuguru and Sathupalli areas during the three-day bandh against the Union government’s move to auction coal mines for commercial mining.
