Visakhapatnam: The CPM and tribal leaders who were arrested for alleged links with Maoists, were on Friday morning released on bail from the Central prison here.

CPM GK Veedhi leader Bakuru Koteswara Rao, Vantala Sari, Vantala Sattibabu, Pangi Dasu, Nadela Nagulu and health worker Dalai Rajubabu who were arrested in October last year, were released after 108 days.

CPM State secretariat member Ch Narasinga Rao demanded that the cases against them by withdrawn immediately.

“On October 11 last year, a cell tower was blasted at Darakonda. The police and the intelligence wings know who were behind it. But instead of arresting the real culprits, the innocent tribals were made to go round the police station in the name of investigation for 11 days before they were sent to the Central prison in the city. It has become a practice to arrest those who opposed bauxite mining in the agency and foist cases on them. Police should go by the facts and lift cases against the innocent,” he said.
