Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress, desperately trying to stem dissidence from ticket aspirants who were denied the opportunity to contest the upcoming elections in State, was on Thursday plunged into further crisis with serious charges of corruption and selling of seats to those who are able to cough up money up to Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore.
Ranga Reddy district Congress committee president Kyama Mallesh on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against All India Congress Committee’s screening committee chairman Bhakta Charan Das stating that the senior Congress leader’s son demanded Rs 3 crore from him for the party ticket to contest from Ibrahimpatnam constituency.
He also alleged that some of party’s State and central leaders collected Rs 10 crore from former Minister and now TRS candidate from Khairatabad constituency and in return, fielded “weak” candidate Dr Dasoju Sravan from Khairatabad. He also released audio tapes of a conversation which he said, proves his charges of Bhakata Charan Das’s son Sagar demanding money for giving him the party ticket. “My son was told to pay Rs 3 crore for me to get the party ticket.” I informed Telangana Congress president and AICC general secretary R C Khuntia about the demand and played the audio recording. While they asked me to keep this matter quiet, Bhakta Charan Das threatended me,” Mallesh told reporters at a press conference here.
“I have worked for Congress for 35 years. Uttam Kumar Reddy has cut my throat. Little does he know that people of the State are ready to do the same in the elections to him,” he said. The Congress has completely ignored weaker sections such as Golla Kurumas and Yadavs and would have to pay a price for it in the coming elections, he added.
