Hyderabad: In view of the coronavirus and lockdown, the Women and Transgender Organisations joint committee have come together to raise funds for transgenders in the city through Ketto, the crowd funding platform.
According to the committee, marginalised communities like the transgender people were affected the most during the pandemic. With a sudden loss of livelihood, limited access to welfare schemes and lack of support systems, they do not have the resources to practise social distancing during lockdown.
The committee has identified 200 transgender women who are especially vulnerable and are looking to provide them with a monthly basic income of Rs 5000 for the next two months.
The beneficiaries have been prioritised to help those who are most at risk for Covid-19 particularly elderly or with existing health conditions. The money will be transferred directly to their bank accounts.
