Showcasing next-gen tech at DefExpo

Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras showcased next-generation technologies during the DefExpo 2020, the biennial defence exhibition held from February 5 to 9 at Lucknow.

IIT Madras is the ‘Knowledge Partner’ of Tamil Nadu Defence Corridor and was part of the TIDCO (Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation) Pavilion in the Expo. The efforts of defence-related startups that are being incubated by IIT Madras were on display.

Some of the technologies showcased included Multi Role Expendable UAVs; Next Generation Fire Control Network; and Ramjet Projectile Technology for incorporation in Artillery projectiles.

According to a press release, IIT Madras was working with the Defence Industry on a number of issues, as part of which MoUs were signed with the Ordnance Factory Board for the establishment of a joint Centre of Excellence for Ammunition; and with Bharat Electronics Limited for the establishment of research and collaboration in the areas of ‘Propellants, Explosives and Related Technologies.
