Hyderabad: Former Congress Legislative Council floor leader Shabbir Ali criticised the State government for the demolition of old Secretariat and thereby damaging the places of worship in its premises. Terming the day as a black day for Telangana, Shabbir Ali said that the action of the government had hurt the sentiments of the people.

He also wondered how AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi who has opposed demolition of Babri Masjid could support demolition of mosque in Secretariat. “Asad must answer why his party undertook so many agitations taking the lives of innocent people,” he questioned.

He alleged that the government knew that the places of worship would be damaged and that is why the Chief Secretary and DGP offered prayers at the Nalla Pochamma temple before removing the idol. Shabbir said he had predicted this and had written a letter last year to Chief Minister not to demolish Secretariat.

Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy said the Secretariat had offered services to 16 chief ministers so far and alleged that the government had misled the High Court and undertook the demolition without permission from the National Green Tribunal. He said the government bulldozed the opposition by restricting their movement while undertaking the demolition process.
