Designs for a cause

As part of the course curriculum, students of fashion technology showcased their designing skills and also brought the handicraft artisans and weavers into limelight.

The Department of Apparel and Textile, College of Home Science, in Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), organised a graduates apparel design show titled Nirmiti-2018, at the university auditorium on Wednesday. Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao, who was the chief guest, formerly inaugurated the event.

As part of the course curriculum, students of fashion technology showcased their designing skills and also brought the handicraft artisans and weavers into limelight. Handlooms was decided as the highlight of Nirmiti-2018. The students designed clothes from traditional handloom products like durries, lungis, bedsheets etc., from adopted clusters of TSCO, and converted it into trendy apparel to build a new path wherein weavers get remuneration.

Students who worked with Kamalpur cluster of Warangal Urban district to create western garments using bedsheets, lungis, and cotton shirting materials, bagged the best designers of the event award. The students — T Anil Swaroop, M Yamini and S Archana — received the prize from Dr V Praveen Rao. Students had created designs on the theme Gin Anev (Begin anew).

The second prize was bagged by Ch Harinath, P Harika and Ch Swathi for their designs on the theme Ofin Ovation (ofin means woven, ovation means praise), made from with Armoor cluster cloth material like cotton shirting material, lungis and bedsheets, which were converted to traditional party wear.

Designs on the theme of Telangana Muggulu by the B Srikanth, S Sireesha, and K Faisal who worked with Kanukala cluster weavers bagged the third prize.
