Devotees throng Bhadradri to witness celestial wedding

Minister Indrakaran Reddy offers ‘pattu vastram’ and ‘mutyala talambralu’ on the occasion of Rama Navami

Bhadrachalam (Kothagudem): Sri Rama Navami, the day on which Lord Vishnu’s seventh incarnation Lord Rama appeared in human form, was celebrated in grand manner at Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Sunday.

The temple town, on the banks of river Godavari, was wrapped up in deep devotion as the spectacle of celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita unveiled at the historic Bhadradri temple. The temple premises turned vibrant as Rama tied the knot with his consort Sita.

Thousands of devotees gathered at the 17th century temple built by Bhakta Ramadasu, to witness the annual event which was performed in traditional manner amid chanting of Vedic mantras.

Kalyana mandapam at Midhila stadium at the temple was beautifully decorated and several rituals were performed between 2 am to 9.30 am during which ‘abhishekam’ to ‘mulavarulu’, ‘druvamurthula kalyanam’ and alankaram were conducted. The rituals of celestial wedding was performed in Abhijit lagnam between 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.

The wedding rituals were performed by chief priests Amaravadi Vijayaraghavan and Podicheti Seetaramanuja Charyulu under the guidance of senior priest KE Sthalasai, in the presence of Ahobila Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami and Devanatha Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami.

As part of the tradition, Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy presented ‘pattu vastram’ and ‘mutyala talambralu’ to the divine couple on behalf of the State government.

Silk clothes and pearls were also presented by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in AP, Sri Rangam Temple in Tamil Nadu, China Jeeyar Matt, Hyderabad, Endowment Commissioner V Anil Kumar and former chairman of the TTD Kanumuri Bapiraju.

In the evening, ‘Tiruveedhi Seva’ took place, wherein the idols of deities Lord Rama and Goddess Sita were taken out in a procession in the streets on Chandraprabhavahanam.

Maha pattabhishekam would take place on Monday at kalyana mandapam. The Governor ESL Narasimhan was expected to attend ‘maha pattabhishekam’, the temple officials said.

The Collectors of Khammam and Kothagudem, RV Karnan and Rajat Kumar Saini, Warangal IGP Y Nagi Reddy, Kothagudem SP Sunil Dutt, Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah and others were present.
