Devotees throng temples on Guru Purnima in Hyderabad

Many temples, including the popular Sai Baba temples in Punjagutta, Dilsukhnagar, Chaderghat and other areas teemed with devotees.

Hyderabad: City wore a festive look on Tuesday with people celebrating Guru Purnima with religious fervour. Temples, especially those of Shirdi Sai Baba, were decked up with colourful flowers and illumination as part of the festivities.

Many temples, including the popular Sai Baba temples in Punjagutta, Dilsukhnagar, Chaderghat and other areas teemed with devotees. Despite being a working day, serpentine queues were witnessed at many temples as devotees arrived to have darshan since early in the morning.
All through the day, the temples buzzed with activity as special pujas and rituals were performed at the temples. At few temples, Sai Baba chanting was performed non-stop for hours together by the devotees.

As part of the celebrations, many temple managements organised free food distribution for the devotees and the needy. Bhajans, keertans and rituals marked the celebrations and braving the rains in the evening, processions were taken out with the idols of the Lord Shirdi Sai Baba on specially decked up vehicles in different colonies.

Temples shut due to lunar eclipse

In view of the lunar eclipse, many temples in the city were shut early in the evening. All the prominent temples like the Balaji Temple, Chilkur, Ujjaini Mahakali temple and others were closed early in the afternoon.

At many Mahakali temples, women devotees were urged not to offer Bonams beyond 1 pm as the temples were closed. Ujjaini Mahakali temple authorities said the temple will open at 9 am on Wednesday after performing purification rituals.
