Hyderabad: Several prominent personalities have hailed the efforts of the Telangana State government in curtailing the spread of coronavirus in the State, and have announced big donations to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to help the government tackle the situation.
Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Company Limited (MEIL) announced a donation of Rs 5 crore to the CMRF. MEIL MD PV Krishna Reddy handed over the cheque to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan here on Thursday. Chandrashrekhar Rao thanked the MEIL Group for the gesture.
Shanta Biotech promoter and Padma Bhushan awardee KE Prasada Reddy also called on the Chief Minister and appreciated the measures taken by the government. He handed over a cheque of Rs one crore as his personal contribution to the CMRF. KNR Constructions owner Kamidi Narasimha Reddy also handed over a cheque for Rs one crore to the Chief Minister as his contribution to the CMRF. Laurus Labs CEO Dr Satyanarayana, Executive Director Chandrakanth Reddy also handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to the CMRF, besides announcing that the company would give one lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets.
The Chief Minister thanked all the donors for their contributions and for appreciating the measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of the virus. The contributions made by the donors will support the programmes taken up by the government and also inspire the official machinery, Chandrashekhar Rao said.
Hyderabad-based Meenakshi Group Chairman K S Rao and Managing Director C Sivaji handed over a cheque for Rs one crore to IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao at Pragathi Bhavan. GPK Exports and Imports owners Phani Kumar and Karnala Sailaja Reddy donated 4,000 N95 masks for the use by government doctors, and handed over the same to Rama Rao. The Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) also donated Rs one crore to the CMRF with Association representatives handed over the cheque to the Minister.
Meanwhile, Tollywood star Mahesh Babu, while donating Rs one crore to the CMRFs of the two Telugu States, urged people to come forward and make their contributions. In a tweet, Mahesh Babu said: “Lauding the efforts of our government in teckling coronavirus and doing their best to contain it. To support them in this fight, I’ve decided to do my part, contributing Rs 1 crore to CMRFs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. I request everyone who can, to come forward and make a donation towards the cause. Every donation will make a tremendous difference.”
Rama Rao, responding to Mahesh Babu’s gesture and appeal, tweeted: “Great job Mahesh.”
