Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 2.9 crore in Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
Based on specific input, the team intercepted a container truck from New Delhi at Nainavaram in Ambhapuram. On questioning, the driver gave irrelevant replies and on being inspected, about 30 lakh cigarette sticks of ‘Paris’ brand of Myanmar origin was recovered, a press release issued by the DRI Hyderabad Zonal Unit, said.
These cigarettes were concealed in stainless steel ware to avoid being identified, officials said.
