Drive against ticketless travel in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway on Monday took out a ticket checking drive at the Cherlapally Railway station during which 14 people found travelling without tickets were jailed for 10 days each by the Second Metropolitan Magistrate, Secunderabad.

The special drive on ticketless passengers began at 4.30 am, and covered all important trains arriving in the city in the morning hours as well as trains leaving from the twin cities. The drive covered 36 trains and Rs.1.87 lakh was collected as fine from 529 people. Those who did not pay the fines were sent to jail.

Other travellers including those travelling in upper classes with lower class tickets, travelling in express trains with passenger tickets etc. were also apprehended.  145 such passengers were penalized and Rs.41,790 was collected as fine from them, according to an SCR release.
