Drone programme launched at PJTSAU

The programme was initiated after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of ITE&C, Telangana, and World Economic Forum, as part of PJTSAU artificial intelligence initiative in agriculture.

Hyderabad: IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and Secretary for the Department of Agriculture Dr Janardhan Reddy inaugurated the drone flight and research programme on drone technology at the Rice Section in Agricultural Research Institute, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) here, on Thursday. After the inauguration, they observed the functioning of the drone on the rice fields.

The programme was initiated after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of ITE&C, Telangana, and World Economic Forum, as part of PJTSAU artificial intelligence initiative in agriculture.

As part of the programme, a network project ‘Evaluation and standardisation of plant protection solutions in major field crops using drones’ is being implemented at five centres in university viz, Regional Agricultural Research Stations (RARS) Warangal, Jagitial, Palem and Agriculture Research Station (ARS) Tandur, Rice Research Centre, Rajendranagar for developing SOP’s for spraying using drone technology for various crops including rice.

PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao, Director of Research Dr R Jagadeeshwar, Registrar Dr Sudheer Kumar and other university officers and scientists also participated in the programme, a press release said.
