Hyderabad: In yet another case of drunk driving claiming lives in the city, one person died and three others sustained injuries when their car hurtled out of control and crashed into a tree on the pavement at Road No 78 here in Jubilee Hills in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Vishwajeet alias Vishwajit W (33), a native of Basara, Adilabad and residing in Barkatpura here. He was working as a priest at the famous Basara temple. The injured persons are Vivek (29), a businessman; Pruthvi (27), a private employee from Malkajgiri, and Keshava (29), a businessman from Moulali.
According to the Jubilee Hills police, all four were childhood friends and had a party at Manikonda, during which some of them are suspected to have consumed liquor. They were returning in a car (TS 09 EB 9225) from Manikonda via Jubilee Hills towards Prashasan Nagar around 2:30 am.
While Vivek was driving the car, allegedly in an inebriated condition and at high speed, Pruthvi was seated beside him, Vishwajeet and Keshava were in the rear seats.
“When they reached Road No 78, Vivek is suspected to have lost control on the wheel. The car crashed into the pavement on the left side, climbed on it and hit a tree before toppling,” police said.
“We rushed to the spot immediately and shifted Vishwajeet, who suffered multiple injuries, to hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The others survived with injuries and were shifted to private hospitals in Jubilee Hills and Kacheguda,” police said. It is learned that Vishwajeet had come to the city about two months ago.
The Jubilee Hills police booked a case for negligence causing death and are investigating. Vishwajeet’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital morgue and his family in Basara has been informed.
