Hyderabad: The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) has decided to establish a consultancy centre for training representatives of various companies and organisations in English and foreign languages. The varsity decision comes as there is a lot of demand from the companies and organisations particularly dealing with international business for training their officers in English communication skills and pronunciation.
“Very soon the university will be opening a consultancy centre as many companies are approaching us to help them on communication and written skills in English and other foreign languages. The centre will take up training people,” Prof. E Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, EFLU said.
The central university is also planning to launch free mobile apps on spoken English and English pronunciation. The apps will provide an opportunity for general public to improve their oral communication skills and English pronunciation as well.
Another initiative in the pipeline from the varsity is the introduction of online international journals. As part of enhancing the research output, seven online international journals will be launched with foreign experts on editorial board along with dean and heads of the department concerned. “The university is ready with seven online journals which are international in nature and soon they will come out,” Prof. Suresh said.
The Centre for Translation and Interpretation Studies established by the varsity has evoked good response. The university is taking up projects related to translation from and into English, Hindi, and foreign languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Russian and Spanish.
The varsity has come up with open educational resources as part of the University Social Responsibility on the lines of Corporate Social Responsibility. Through this, a 30-hour proficiency course in oral communication skills in English, Sanskrit, Hindi and ten foreign languages including Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Persian will be offered.
“The content is ready and is being digitized. In a month, the open educational resources will be launched,” Prof. Suresh said.
Diamond jubilee fete ends today
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) will be holding the closing ceremony of its diamond jubilee celebrations, on Tuesday.
Katherine B Hadda, US Consul General in Hyderabad, Dr. Adnand Altay Altinors, Consul General, Hyderabad Turkish Consulate General of Turkey, Suresh Chukkapalli, Consul General, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea will be taking part in the event organized on the campus.
Prof. E Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, EFLU briefed various events conducted in connection with the diamond jubilee celebrations. He said a one-day workshop on oral communication is being organised by the Department of Training and Development besides various events as part of the celebrations on Tuesday.
