Elderly woman killed in road mishap in Miyapur

Hyderabad: An elderly woman died after she was run over by a rashly driven truck in Miyapur here on Saturday morning. She was riding pillion on a motorcycle when she accidentally fell down and came under the truck.

The victim was identified as Vijayakanta Jain (55), a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Miyapur.

The incident occurred around 11 am when Vijayakanta Jain was proceeding on the motorcycle driven by her nephew Amul Jain from Madinaguda to Malaysian Township.

According to the police, as they approached the MMTS station at Gopal Nagar in Hafeezpet, Amul Jain applied sudden brake in an attempt to escape from a vehicle coming in the wrong direction due to which Vijayakanta Jain fell from the bike.

She fell on the road and came under the rear tyres of a water tanker which was passing by beside them. She suffered grievous bleeding injuries and was shifted to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Based on a complaint from Vijayakanta’s son Piyush Jain, the Miyapur police booked a case of negligence causing death and are investigating. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital and was later handed over to the family after autopsy in the evening.
