Erstwhile Khammam receives rain

The weather at district headquarters of Khammam and Kothagudem districts remained cloudy and there was a brief spell of rainfall in the day in the areas.

Khammam/KothagudemL With monsoon making its way into Telangana State, some places in erstwhile Khammam district received light to moderate showers on Thursday.

The weather at district headquarters of Khammam and Kothagudem districts remained cloudy and there was a brief spell of rainfall in the day in the areas. At Bhadrachalam, low lying areas were inundated and drains overflowed following moderate rainfall for about half an hour.

The premises of Sri Seeta Ramachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam was water-logged causing inconvenience to devotees visiting the religous place. Burgampahad, Yellandu, Tekulapalli, Karakagudem, Cherla and Bhadrachalam mandal in Kothagudem, Kamepalli and other mandals in Khammam district witnessed the rainfall.

Meawhile, six cattle died at Regulla village in Karakagudem mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district when they were struck by lightning and there were also reports of electronic gadgets being damage in several households at Morampalli Banjara following a lightning strike.

It may be noted that both Khammam and Kothagudem districts witnessed three rainy days each in the month of June. There has been a variation of minus 75 per cent in actual and normal rainfall this year as on June 19.

Similarly, in Khammam there has been a variation of minus 50.5 per cent in actual and normal rainfall this month. The actual rainfall in June 2018 was 183 mm which was 32.9 mm in June 2019.
