Rajanna-Sircilla: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Wednesday arrested Yellareddypet Excise Sub-Inspector Sushmitha for demanding bribe from a biryani centre owner. According to ACB officials, Kavvampalli Suresh, a native of Chandurthi, was running a biryani point near Laxminarsimha Swamy wines, Nazamabad of Konaraopet mandal.
He opened the shop on May 5 after the government nod for reopening. On May 12, excise cops raided the biryani point and seized cooking material for operating the centre illegally. When the victim approached the SI, she demanded Rs 2 lakh bribe to avoid case and return the cooking material. After repeated requests, she agreed up on Rs 20,000.
Later, Suresh approached ACB who hatched a plan to trap the SI. The SI, who came to Sircilla excise office on Wednesday, asked Suresh to give the amount to a constable Raju near Yellamma temple in the outskirts of Sircilla town. Raju, who took amount from the victim, fled the spot on spotting ACB officials. Later, the ACB sleuths went to Sircilla excise office and took Sushmitha into custody. A case was registered against the SI and constable.
