Following the zodiac and astrology is a common thing in India but very few are aware of the significant connection between zodiacs and the environment. It is this unusual and unexplored concept which attracted artist Pradosh Swain to create a whole show themed around the link between zodiacs and botany titled ‘Zodiac Zings’ which is now showing at Alankritha Art Gallery in the city.
“Many people aren’t aware that botany and astrology can change the living condition of planets affecting human life. The plants have a very positive vibration which removes certain ill effects one faces in life,” says Pradosh who has earlier worked on similarly themed paintings around environment, gemstones called The Healing Rays of Life. For instance, the Sun is related to arka, moon to dhak, mercury to apamarga, Jupiter to Peepal, Saturn to Shami, etc.
According to him, the journey of exploring the interlinked nature of astrological science and the related plants was an interesting one. But, it was a long one and which took him two years to collate, understand and give form on paper.
A total of 12 acrylic works make up the exhibition. “They are surrealistic works, but they are open to interpretation of the viewer,” explains Pradosh who has spent considerable time researching the subject.
The Odisha-based artist studied Fine Arts in Utkal University and later got a senior fellowship on 44 Ragas from CCRT, New Delhi. His works have previously been showcased in Patna, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar to name a few.
