Eye bank opened at SD Eye Hospital

The eye bank, which was set-up with the help of TL Kapadia Charitable Trust, comes with high-end infrastructure and manpower to provide the specialised services.

Hyderabad: Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated the eye bank facility at State-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam. The new facility will not only provide eye donation facility but also will offer free of cost corneal transplants to needy patients.

The eye bank, which was set-up with the help of TL Kapadia Charitable Trust, comes with high-end infrastructure and manpower to provide the specialised services. “More and more private companies should come forward and contribute towards the development of State-run hospitals under their CSR activities,” the Minister said.

The Health Minister pointed out that a slew of developmental activities including procurement of medical infrastructure and construction of a shelter for patient attenders will be taken up at SD Eye Hospital. He later inspected various departments of the hospital and directed officials to prepare plans to construct new facilities within the campus.

“Very soon, we are going to launch massive eye-screening camps across the State, which will be beneficial for all. In the last few years, the government has done a lot of positive work in improving medical services in public health institutions,” he said.

Nampally MLA, Jaffer Hussain Meraj, Corporator, Ayesha Rubina, Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Goud, senior health officials and hospital staff were present.
