Peddapalli: The Godavarikhani police busted a gang, which is producing fake Aadhaar cards, and took into custody two operators of a UIDAI centre for their involvement in the racket.

The duo, Ram Mallesh (31) of Prasanthanagar, and Medari Laxman (31) of Vittalnagar, were produced before the media at Godavarikhani on Saturday where Assistant Commissioner of Police Rakshitha K Murthy explained their modus operandi.

A third accused, identified as Shanigarapu Sagar of Sanjaygandhinagar, is on the run.
To issue new Aadhaar cards and make changes (name and address) in existing cards, UIDAI authorities have set up help and assistance centres at different banks. Six months ago, Ram Mallesh got permission to set-up such a centre in Telangana Grameena Bank, Godavarikhani.

However, instead of doing what they were expected to, they began using some loopholes in the UIDAI system and began issuing new Aadhaar cards on the name of the people who already had them. They used to collect Rs 1,500 to 2,000 for each fake Aadhaar card.
