Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi requested Central government to ensure effective linkage of the Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (EGS) with agriculture so that farmers reap maximum benefits.
Introducing the resolution, Telangana Planning Board vice chairman S Niranjan Reddy said agriculture was the backbone of the State economy, providing large-scale employment. Making agriculture a remunerative sector would ensure that the long cherished food security of the people would be achieved and it would also address unemployment related problems, he said.
The resolution appreciated the Chief Minister for his visionary approach in resolving the issues faced by farmers as also his efforts to revitalize agriculture through a series of major and medium irrigation projects.
The Government initiative in ushering policy change in land acquisition process enabling consent of land owners to acquire land yielded successful results. Though the government was sparing no effort in alleviating the problems of farmers, opposition parties were creating obstacles for government’s initiative through litigations, the resolution said.
