Hyderabad: Since the outbreak of Covid pandemic, plasma therapy has gained a lot of patronage among general public, fuelling a huge demand for the investigational therapy.
At the same time, the therapy has also spawned unscrupulous elements, who are always on the look out to make quick bucks. The huge demand for plasma has also made it difficult for people to contact donors who have recently recovered from Covid and are healthy enough to donate blood.
To address these concerns, free blood donors database Friends2Support.org on Sunday launched a ‘Covid-19 Plasma Donor’ section on its website. Founder of Friends2Suppoert.org, Shaik Shareef said that only a small number of Covid-19 positive persons can be treated with Plasma Therapy and even for them searching for plasma donor of that particular blood group had turned a difficult process.
“To make things easy for the patients and relatives of Covid-19 positive persons and the medical fraternity in finding a plasma donor, we have been running this section for the past one week on a trial basis. Without announcing about this provision, many of those who had defeated Covid-19, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had already registered themselves as voluntary plasma donors on the mobile application and website,” he said.
All positive patients, who have recovered from the virus and are willing to help, can voluntarily register themselves as ‘Plasma Donors’. At present, there are 5 lakh normal blood donors voluntarily registered on this website from six countries, and the majority of them hail from different States in India.
“There is a definite need to motivate people who recover from Covid to donate for the novel cause. They can visit our mobile application or visit the website for registration and help people gain from the information,” Shareef said.
The database Friends2Support.org is available in the form of a website and Android and iOS applications.
