Fishermen in Nizamabad protest against Talasani’s remarks

Nizamabad: Telangana Gangaputra Sangam on Monday staged a protest and a huge rally here against Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav’s remarks alleging that he is supporting the Mudiraj community and ordered fisheries officials to immediately repeal fishermen societies which are opposed to issuing membership to the Mudiraj community people and also repeal GO No.6 which is supporting them.

The rally was organised from R&B guest house to the District Collectorate.

Participating in a Mudiraj Sangam meeting at Dharpally mandal headquarters on April 10 during a tour to Nizamabad district to launch subsidised sheep distribution programme, the Minister had ordered officials to suspend the fisheries societies that are not issuing membership to the Mudirajs.

District Fisheries Federation members, Telangana Gangaputra Sangam, Nizamabad Urban Gangaputra Sangam and various fishermen societies took part in the protest and raised slogans against the Minister.

Pallikonda Saibaba, AFCOF district president said that in Nizamabad district only Gundla and Besta community people are fishermen, but Talasani is violating the rights of traditional fisherfolk who have been in the professsion since hundreds of years.
