While the city is decked up in lights and decorations to celebrate the State Formation Day, various restaurants in the city have geared up with Telangana food festivals to add to the festive atmosphere.
Telangana cuisine is an integral part of the region and is celebrated for its generally tangy, spicy taste and millet-based rotis.
Joining the celebrations, Westin Hyderabad, in Mind Space, Hi-tec City, is orgnaising ‘Telangana Food Week’. Here, you’ll get a chance to savour the fresh flavours from the brand new State. They promise to give you an experience of an exquisite spread of yummy flavours from the backyard gardens and community farms recreated from the old villages of the State.
The buffet spread has been crafted by chef Srikanth and chef Yadaiah.
What you can expect while visiting this festival is a lavish buffet spread with about three snacks for starters, 11 varieties of dishes and four desserts. The food will be served in a thali with banana leaf, to retain the traditional way of eating. Among the spread, dishes like Endu chapa vankaya (eggplant with dry fish), Kodi Koora (chicken curry) and Chintachiguru mamsam (mutton curry), besides Mudda pappu and Mamidikaya pulihora (mango rice) are a must-try.
Served warm, the rich flavour of ghee and dal in Mudda pappu and the tangy and slightly spicy Mamidikaya pulihora with chunks of mango are sure to overwhelm your taste buds.
Coming to the desserts, you have the option to choose from Rava laddu, Kajjikayalu, Bakshalu and Nuvvula Boorelu.
Unfortunately, what you see is not always what you get! The food served here is mostly tangy, but not as spicy as how Telugu cuisines are supposed to be. The ambience is great and though the food may not please you completely, it won’t put you off either.
