Visakhapatnam: Former CPM corporator Botta Eswaramma and another woman were arrested on Sunday when they tried to obstruct the opening of a bar and restaurant on Ravindranagar main road.
CPM leader B. Padma, who condemned the arrest of Eswaramma and Kamala, said that the locals were agitating for the past 45 days opposing the opening of the wine shop in the area.
However, the Telugu Desam Party government provided police protection to the bar owners and facilitated its opening after arresting the CPM leaders. “The TDP and BJP governments are more interested in wine shop owners than people’s welfare. We have been agitating here for over a month and we wonder why our local MLA P. Vishu Kumar Raju could not prevent the opening of the shop. We demand release of the arrested and that the bar should be closed,” she said.
