Former National cyclist Richard Clarke passes away

In 1984, Richard won the 1000m time trials event gold in the Senior National championship.

Hyderabad: Former National and international cyclist Richard Clarke passed away here on Wednesday. He was 56. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Younger brother of Maxwell Trevor, Richard rose to prominence in cycling by dominating the Junior Nationals championship. He won three gold medals in the junior championship.  In 1984, Richard won the 1000m time trials event gold in the Senior National championship.

Richard represented India in the 1981 Asian Cycling Championship in Manila in Philippines before taking part in the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.

After retiring, he became the coach of the South Central and Indian Railways team. He was also the treasurer of the erstwhile AP Cycling Association.
