Visakhapatnam: Four COVID-19 patients died during the past two days at the State COVID Centre Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) causing alarm among the public.

With all serious cases of coronavirus from the north Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari referred to VIMS which is said to be better equipped than other hospitals to treat the victims. But the situation there leaves much to be desired.

The sanitation staff on Thursday staged protest over wages cut for not attending duty on Sunday.  They also complained that they were being paid the promised Rs.12,000 salary per month in installments. The district has so far recorded only one death in the past couple of months but with VIMS deaths reported, it has risen to five.
