Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Four persons, including two drivers and a daily wager, were killed when a Bolero jeep fell into a trench at a culvert in Sonapur village of Rebbena mandal in the district on Saturday.

The accident took place when the jeep driver reportedly lost control over it. The vehicle belongs to DBL, which was hired by SCCL for removing overburden of opencast project at Khairiguda in the mandal.

Rebbena Inspector K Purushottam said that the deceased were identified as Mohd Eyaz Khan (45), a mechanic from Dhanbad of Jharkhand; Bala Koteshwar Rao (40), Vishwanathappli Durga Rao (40) – both drivers, and Tirkala Kiran Kumar (38), daily wager – all natives of Kairiguda village in Rebbena.

The four died on the spot after the vehicle fell into a deep trench over which the culvert was built. The jeep driver was suspected to have been speeding and lost control over the vehicle when he applied brakes to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

Following the accident, drivers of the opencast project and their colleagues staged a dharna demanding compensation to the kin of the victims. Superintendent of Police Kalmeshwar Shingenawar rushed to the spot and held discussions with the agitators. It took at least three hours for establishing the identity of the bodies which were stuck in the jeep.
