Rajanna-Sircilla: Nonagerian freedom fighter Anmula Narsaiah was felicitated on behalf of President Ramnath Kovind on Sunday.
A native of Nimmapalli of Konaraopet mandal, Narsaiah had the opportunity of being felicitated by the President on the occasion of “Quit India Movement” day on August 9. It is a regular practice to felicitate freedom fighters who are invited to Rashtrapathi Bhavan by the President on this occasion. However, in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, the President’s office decided to felicitate freedom fighters at their respective residences instead of inviting them to Delhi. In this regard, instructions were passed on to the Collectors.
Besides passing instructions, a shawl and other felicitation material were also sent from the President’s office to felicitate the freedom fighters.
Based on the instructions, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Nyalakonda Aruna and Additional Collector R Anjaiah on Sunday visited the residence of Narsaiah and felicitated him and his wife with a shawl.
Speaking on the occasion, Aruna said the freedom enjoyed by the people of the country was only because of the sacrifices and relentless struggle of freedom fighters, who fought dor the Independence for the nation.
