Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police arrested a three-member gang including a lawyer on charges of threatening and extorting Rs 15 lakh from a software employee, their former manager here on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were identified as S Ramesh (35), a lawyer from Borabanda, M Sanjeev Kumar (29) from Ramachandrapuram and M Kiran (29) from Begumpet.

M Srinivas Marrimakulla, a former senior manager of a software firm (ADP Pvt Ltd), Somajiguda lodged a complaint four days ago alleging that Sanjeev, Kiran and Ramesh, who were earlier working as analysts in the same office, bore a grudge against him alleging he was not giving them promotions and started threatening him.

Kiran Kumar and Sanjeev called Srinivas to a hotel in LB Nagar area in September last year and beat him. They also threatened to foist a case against him. They demanded Rs 15 lakh for not filing the case.

“Srinivas gave Rs 5 lakh to Ramesh in the presence of the other suspects on the High Court premises. Again on their demand, he gave Rs 10 lakh more at Kachiguda. As per their demand, he also resigned from his job. They took a blank cheque and promissory note as a surety from him,” police said.

Recently, on June 5, Ramesh deposited a cheque in his bank account in favour of other suspects, but the cheque bounced. Ramesh then demanded Srinivas to pay another Rs 5 lakh to return his cheque and promissory note, but Srinivas agreed to pay Rs 4 lakh.

During the course of investigation, the trio was arrested and Rs 15 lakh, cheques and promissory notes were recovered from them. They were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
