Gang that stole 80 ACs from 41 ATMs held in Hyderabad

The kingpin, earlier worked for a Mumbai based company which undertakes contracts of maintenance of ACs and surveillance cameras in ATM centres.

Police recovered 75 ACs along with compressors worth Rs 15 lakh from the gang.

Hyderabad: The Kachiguda police arrested a five-member gang, including three students, on charges of stealing 80 Air Conditioners along with compressors from 41 ATM centres under 23 police station limits in Hyderabad and Rachakonda areas here on Saturday.

Police recovered 75 ACs along with compressors, all together worth Rs 15 lakh, from them.

The arrested suspects were identified as Mohammed Ahsan Rahman; an intermediate student from Chandrayangutta; Syed Akram, 20, an intermediate student; Mohammed Adil, 19, an AC mechanic; Mohammed Ismail, 21; a degree student of Jagruthi Degree College, Malkajgiri; Mohammed Wazeed Khan, 20, an auto-rickshaw driver. All were residents of Lalaguda.

According to the police, Rahman, the kingpin, earlier worked for a Mumbai based company which undertakes contracts of maintenance of ACs and surveillance cameras in ATM centres in Hyderabad. He had committed a theft and was eventually fired by the company.

“Rahman plotted to steal ACs from unmanned ATM centres and shared his plot with others to which they agreed. They stole 80 ACs from 41 centres until now,” police said.

Cases were booked against them at 23 police stations including Kachiguda, Nallakunta, Saidabad,Malakpet, Chaderghat, Amberpet, Lallaguda, Saifabad, Ramgopalpet, Rein Bazar, Mailardevpallay, Saroor Nagar, Balapur, Malkajgiri and Uppal.

They concealed the ACs at the godown at Fateh Darwaza belongs to Yousuf, to whom Rahman promised to provide 100 ACs by January 15. He had introduced himself as a contractor.
