Hyderabad: Students aspiring to study a management course from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) should gear up for the entrance test. A notification for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 has been issued by the IIMs and the entrance exam will be conducted in test centres across 156 cities on November 29 in two sessions. The results are likely to be declared by the second week of January, 2021 and scores are valid only till December 31, 2021.
The online registrations are underway and last date to apply through the website https://iimcat.ac.in/ is September 16. The application fee is Rs.1,000 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates and Rs.2,000 for all other categories of candidates. Candidates can download their examination admit card from October 28 till date of the test.
Candidates having a bachelor degree with at least 50 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA (45 per cent in case of candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PWD categories) from any recognised university or educational institution are eligible to apply. Students who are appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination or those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.
The CAT 2020 comprises three sections-verbal ability and reading comprehensions, data interpretation and local reasoning, and quantitative ability. The test will be conducted for 180 minutes and candidates will be allotted 60 minutes for answering questions in each section. The students will not be allowed to switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.
According to a release from the IIMs, some questions in each section may not be of multiple-choice type. Instead, candidates have to type direct answers on the screen. Candidates will be allowed to use a basic on-screen calculator for computation.
In order to familiarise students with the format of the entrance test, a tutorial will be made available on the CAT website from October 16.
“CAT 2020 process is to be conducted taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. The information provided by the CAT website is contingent upon the decision and directions issued from time to by the central and state government, and IIMs. Candidates are advised to regularly check the CAT website for further information,” the IIMs said.
