Hyderabad: The online education space has undergone a big shift in the last few years. From having apps that teach on different subjects and/or topics to apps that provide video sessions for many exams, we have it all. However, many apps do not have live tutor sessions at flexible time for any subject or topic. To tap into this segment, Hyderabad-based Levelapp was conceptualised in 2016 and launched in 2018.
Two young engineering graduates – Ashwitha Reddy Chinnamail and Suchitra Reddy Chinnamail — thought about this in 2016 and in two years they launched the first beta version. After testing the product for a few months, they are ready with a final version of the app.
Levelapp helps students – ranging from school to working professionals – get help for the subject of their choice through live as well as recorded sessions. It also helps tutors – from students who want to work part-time to retired professors to housewives – to teach students. The platform works both online as well as offline and is part of the We-Hub’s first cohort and ISB’s DLabs.
“After completing our engineering we wanted to pursue this idea. We saw that while on the one hand there were students from IITs and other institutions wanting to teach students, there were also many housewives who were teachers before willing to teach at their convenience. We offer a range of subjects which include K-12 subjects, competitive exam preparation, and language tuitions,” said Ashwitha, who along with her cousin completed her engineering from VNR VJIET.
Currently, the platform has about 3,000 users registered — both tutors and students — out of which 800 plus are tutors. It works on two models – subscription and instant learning. In the former, the student has the flexibility to choose a particular time daily to get tuitions and in the latter, the student can log in at any time and find tutors and pay on hourly basis. Going ahead, the platform plans to tap into the tier-2 and 3 cities.
