Hyderabad: After coming up with 3D paintings at different Bathukamma ghats in the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now gearing up to set up 2D and 3D zebra crossings at different junctions for better adherence to road safety rules.
As a pilot project, the GHMC west zone is establishing these innovative zebra crossings which easily catches the attention of road users. Emphasis is being laid on junctions, which have educational institutes and hospitals in the vicinities.
The idea is to make motorists notice these and adhere to the road safety rules specially in critical and sensitive zones. These 3D and 2D zebra crossings, which come in different patterns like paintings of wild animals and others will make the road users drive slowly at the junctions, said GHMC West Zone Commissioner D. Harichandana.
One such zebra crossing was established at NAC Junction near Hitex Convention Centre and efforts were being made to come up with these crossings at Ramdev Memorial Hospital, Kukatpally, JNTU junction, KPHB, Forum Mall, KPHB and other places.
Being taken up in association with private organization, these 3D zebra crossing costs about Rs.30,000 while the 2D ones costs nearly Rs.20,000. Already, a few private schools and hospitals are extending their support to establish these facilities near their respective places, she said.
A few are being established at different junctions under a pilot project. Once the traffic police approve the project, it can be taken up at several other junctions as well, she added.
