Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday took up an encroachment clearance drive to remove signboards and other commercial activities on footpaths and roads.
The drive, conducted by the Town Planning wing of the Central Zone along with the Traffic Police, saw over 140 encroachments in Shaikpet being removed on Thursday night, while Friday’s operations were concentrated in Tolichowki, Kukatpally, Nampally, Darusallam, Uppal and LB Nagar circles.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy made surprise visits to various educational institutions in Rajendranagar circle to inspect the condition of saplings that were earlier planted in those institutions as part of the Haritha Haram initiative. He also visited the Professor Jayashanker Agriculture University and enquired about the saplings there. The GHMC is planning to provide tree guards to protect the plants from animals, according to a press release.
