Hyderabad: The last five days of inspections at the eateries in the city had the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) initiating action against 76 hotels and restaurants and levying penalties to the tune of Rs.6.26 lakh.
During the crackdown against eating joints, the civic body teams carried out inspection of different aspects including hygiene, quality of food and also the source of meat, whether it was acquired from authorised source and stamped or not.
On Friday, GHMC officials inspected 28 different hotels and restaurants and levied penalties of Rs.1.86 lakh on 22 hotels for using unstamped meat and unhygienic conditions.
During the drive, officials levied Rs.50,000 penalty on Hotel Green Bawarchi, Aramgarh and Rs.15,000 Hotel Bawarchi at Chintalkunta Checkpost for unhygienic conditions at their premises.
It is mandatory for the hotel and restaurants managements to use stamped meat from GHMC slaughterhouses and ensure sanitation and cleanliness in their premises, authorities said. The special drive would be carried out in the coming days, they added.
