Hyderabad: The GHMC is exploring the possibilities of reverting to night sanitation to ensure garbage transportation devoid of any stench and traffic issues during peak hours in the day.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Principal Secretary, Arvind Kumar said efforts were being made to transport maximum garbage during off peak hours.
On Friday, Kumar tweeted: “Having said, certain percentage will continue to be transported during daytime. Am referring it right away to GHMC Commissioner and EVDM Director.”
Responding to the tweet, EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati tweeted “Noted sir, will make schedules for transporting through heavy vehicles at night and non-peak times as far as possible.”
Of late, there have been complaints regarding lack of hygiene in transportation of garbage, particularly on the routes leading to Jawaharnagar dumpyard.
Twitter user Siva Sharath tweeted a video of a garbage truck, saying: “Some of these trucks leak filthy liquids all along the route. This is Kharkhana road, used by our Chief Minister regularly to visit his constituency. During traffic blockades people get stuck behind these trucks for up to 15 minutes each time.”
