Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has seized six bars and restaurants for failing to maintain mandatory fire and life safety equipment on their premises. In the last few days, the municipal corporation has seized seven establishments and the drive is set to continue in the next few days.
This move comes after the municipal corporation served notices to hotels, pubs, restaurants and other establishments in August last year instructing that establishments which fail to obtain fire safety certificates would be seized without any prior notice.
Accordingly, Tiki Shacks, Calangoat Resto Bar, Urban Asia Kitchen and Bar, Eat India Company ad Raasta Café and Bar were seized on Friday, said GHMC EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati.
The municipal corporation also conducted meetings with associations and owners of hotels, pubs and restaurants. According to Excise Department, there are 148 pubs, restaurants and bars in Hyderabad circle, 103 in Secunderabad circle, 325 in Ranga Reddy and 138 are being operated after seeking events permission.
At present, GHMC has details of 714 establishments but EVDM officials expect there are additional 250 bars and restaurants in GHMC limits. All the hotels, pubs and bars with a seating capacity of more than 50 persons will have to obtain the fire safety certificate.
