Hyderabad: Depressed allegedly over her lover refusing to marry her, a teenage girl committed suicide by hanging in her house at Devdaspura in Golconda on Thursday morning.
The girl was Fathima Sultana (18), a private employee and the daughter of Shaik Yousuf, an auto-rickshaw driver.
According to the Golconda police, Sultana was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta in her bedroom around 9 am. According to the family, Sultana was in love with one Mohammed Zafar for the last five years. Families of both sides had agreed to their marriage as well. About 20 days ago, Sultana joined a private nursing home, where she became friends with a male colleague.
“Learning about this, Zafar started harassing Sultana saying he would not marry her anymore. He also called her mother and informed the same. Sultana was depressed over this and hanged herself,” the police said.
Based on her father’s complaint, a case for abetment to suicide was booked against Zafar and was being probed. Sultana’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital and was later handed over to her family members after an autopsy.
