Nimisha Dixit started making pet-friendly outfits on a whim on the request of friends, but it was actually actor Samantha Akkineni’s casual shout-out to her on Instagram that got the ball rolling for her. Speaking to us in between grooming sessions at her luxury pet accessory store called Dog-O-Bow in Kukatpally, Nimisha says, “When she tagged me in her post, my follower count just snowballed in a fortnight. Before that I had been making out-of-the-box outfits for dogs while working in a designer’s studio.
There was demand for quirky things for pets which got me thinking about opening a store.”Her store stocks everything from tutus, tuxedos, collar belts, sherwanis, beds, leashes, dungarees, sweatshirts, bows, hair clips, etc. Customers who want to pamper their dogs can also take them here for a grooming session where Nimisha and her employees give them the full works – spa, mani-pedi and massage. “We also do customisations of the outfits.
We just finished working on an order of tuxedos for a Goan wedding as the bride wanted black and white outfits for her three dogs. Now we get so many orders that it takes at least three-four days to deliver orders here and to other cities like Delhi and Chandigarh,” explains Nimisha who has 10- to 15 people stitching the clothes in a workshop near the store. Since every dog differs in size and weight, she stocks the readymade tees, dungarees, sweatshirts according to breeds.
Most are casual themed, but her festive collections for dogs just fly off the shelves. Her Garbow-ni-choli collection for the Navratri season was very popular which had vests and collars with mirror works and embroidery for the dogs. With Diwali around the corner, her sherwanis are again in high demand. “Superhero theme costumes are crowd favourites, and many like to take our Batdog and Minnie Mouse costume for photo shoots too,” adds Nimisha.
