Kothagudem: The water level has been increasing steadily in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district. The water level touched 20 feet on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The water level was at 11.8 feet on Monday. With copious rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Godavari, the river was receiving flood waters.
The District Collector MV Reddy has alerted the public on the banks of the river, and asked them not to attempt crossing the rivulets and streams that were in full spate following good rainfall in the catchment areas.
He directed the mandal level officials to make public announcements in villages cautioning the public against crossing streams. He also told the engineering officials to expedite the works of under construction bridges in the district.
A control room was set up at the District Collectorate to address any emergency situation, he added.
