Nalgonda: The State government will take up modernisation of Musi Project soon, said the Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham. Nakrekal MLA released water to Right Canal of Musi Project on Sunday. An awareness programme was also conducted for ‘ayacut’ farmers at the project in Kethepally mandal.

Veeresham said that officials concerned have already sent proposals to the State government for modernisation of Musi Project. Desilting works would be taken up once the water levels come down to 615 foot. There were also proposals to turn Musi Project into a linking point between Krishna river and Godavari river.

He said he would request the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to develop the Musi Project into a tourism spot. Sapling plantation would be taken up on 95 acres near Musi Project, under third phase of Haritha Haram, he said and added that Chief Minister would be invited to launch the programme.

Veeresham asked the farmers not to draw water from the canals of Musi Project using pumps sets. Stringent action would be taken against those who would resort to it, he cautioned. Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Ganduri Pravallika Prakash accompanied the MLA.
