Hyderabad: The Wear Handloom initiative spearheaded by IT Minister KT Rama Rao has found support and quite a number of takers in the US Consulate General here as well.
In tune with Mr. Rama Rao’s call to government officials to wear handloom on Mondays, Consul General Katherine B. Hadda led the staff at the Consulate here on Monday in observing a Handloom Day. The event, apart from having the Consul General and her colleagues wearing handloom, also saw a woman entrepreneur, Sudha Mullapudi, being invited to be part of the day.

Ms. Mullapudi, who was the nominated representative at the Global Artisan Alliance in 2015 at Washington DC, came to the USCG with Abhihaara, the social enterprise set up by her. Abhihaara’s handloom bazaar was set up on the Consulate premises as part of the Handloom day.
Ms. Hadda’s tweet on Tuesday, a photograph of her with the Consulate staff wearing handloom with the caption ‘When we embraced the beautiful colours of handloom!’, saw Mr. Rama Rao responding immediately, appreciating the support.
