Sangareddy: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday demanded that the Congress party clarify its stand on giving special category status (SCS) to Telangana.
The Minister was responding to reports that the Congress leadership had passed a resolution demanding special category status to Andhra Pradesh in New Delhi on Sunday.
Speaking at a meeting in Sangareddy on Tuesday, the Minister demanded that Congress president Rahul Gandhi clarify his party’s stand on extending special category status to Telangana.
If the Centre extends subsidies to industries coming up in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana will lose many industries to the neighbouring State, Rao said. As the special status to Andhra Pradesh creates many headaches for Telangana, the Irrigation Minister sought the Congress leadership’s stand on giving special status to Telangana. “Will the Congress leadership remain silent if any injustice is done to Telangana? he questioned. “Telangana has already got a raw deal since the Union government has extended national status to Polavaram Project located in Andhra Pradesh, but none of the projects were given special category status though Telangana has been demanding it for long, he observed.
Rao further said that both the Congress and BJP have delayed the division of the High Court, which was made part of the AP Reorganisation Bill.
